Procedure

Select a tool for data collection by following these steps:

  • Step 1Define your KPIs

Before addressing which tool to use for data collection, define the KPIs you want to track (see Strategy). Without these, you risk spending enormous time on data collection that satisfies neither your needs nor those of your stakeholders.

  • Step 2Check which tool is currently being used for financial data collection.

The aim is for sustainability KPIs to have the same quality and relevance as financial indicators in the medium term. It is worth checking whether the tool used for financial metrics can also handle sustainability figures – there are often supplementary plugins available. The advantage is that employees are already familiar with the tool and processes, eliminating the need to introduce a new system.

  • Step 3In case you need to procure a new tool.

If you need to procure a new tool, create a list of criteria and invite various providers for evaluation. Possible criteria include, for example:

    • Compliance with your KPIs
    • Compliance with regulatory requirements
    • Approval and plausibility processes
