Take a strategic approach to your sustainability ambitions by following the steps below:
Identify the greatest potential along your value chain. Ideally, focus on the 4-5 most important sustainability topics. You can do this either in a simple form by dividing your value chain into four steps and checking which major sustainability issues are relevant along each step. Alternatively, you can carry out a materiality analysis. You can bring in a consultancy firm for this.
Use this toolbox, for example, to define suitable goals and measures for your company. Define a clear performance indicator with which you want to measure progress in relation to the target. Ideally, choose a time horizon of 4-5 years for the target. Integrate the objectives into the corporate strategy and back them with a clear action plan, internal responsibilities and an allocated budget for implementation.
Continuously measure progress against the performance indicator and the target set. Communicate the progress achieved internally at the various hierarchy levels – ideally alongside the financial figures. Adjust the action plan if progress falls short of expectations.
