Set a goal of developing a workforce that is enthusiastic about sustainability. Only with a motivated workforce will you fully capitalise on sustainability opportunities. Include the desired interest in sustainability in every job advert and company presentation, highlighting sustainability's relevance to the company. Use the recruitment process to attract qualified new employees who share an interest in sustainability.
Based on strategic sustainability goals, identify which employees' job specifications need updating. Job specifications should reflect new tasks – both to create clarity regarding priorities and to acknowledge the work performed in annual reviews.
To create a culture of sustainability, adapt existing incentive systems – both financial and non-financial. If contradictions exist between incentive systems and internal targets, achieving these targets becomes extremely difficult. Therefore, review existing incentive systems and determine where sustainability needs to be incorporated.
