Example of target for sustainable and recyclable products

By 2030, we will generate at least 40% of our sales with products and services designed according to circular economy principles.

  • Measure 1Product design Design for longevity and reuse

Integrate sustainability into the design process: Consider factors such as durability, repairability and reusability.

Use durable materials and components: Consider the reusability of parts and the possibility of repairing or replacing components to extend the product's service life.

Encourage reuse and upcycling: Design the product to remain in a cycle after its original useful life ends.

  • Measure 2Use sustainable materials.

Analysing and selecting sustainable materials: Consider factors such as environmental impact, recyclability and social aspects along the supply chain. A life cycle assessment for the 3 to 4 most important products (e.g. top-selling or best-selling) helps to understand the key levers.

Selection of sustainable materials: Select environmentally friendly and ethically produced materials by choosing materials made from renewable resources, recyclable or certified sustainable (without losing quality over time).

Cooperation with suppliers: Work closely with suppliers to obtain information on material sourcing and manufacturing to ensure they meet the desired sustainability standards.

  • Measure 3 Establish a closed loop for products.

To ensure product recyclability, establish a closed loop by analysing take-back options:

Consider aspects such as point of sale, returns, collection points or partnerships with recycling companies.

Establishment of a take-back system: Establish clear procedures and guidelines to facilitate and standardise the take-back process. Communicate actively with your customers to make them aware of the take-back options. Create incentives, such as discounts or credit notes for returning products. This ensures the materials and components can be reused or upcycled/recycled at the end of their life cycle to make new products.

Relevance & added value

Natural resources are finite. The private sector plays a crucial role in limiting resource consumption and ensuring sustainable resource use. Sustainable and recyclable products and services help reduce the ecological footprint and meet growing customer needs.
