This leading Swiss company in the technology sector specialises in developing and producing innovative electronic and GPS devices. The company offers a wide range of products, including navigation systems, fitness trackers and smartwatches for the global market. With a strong focus on research and development, the company is committed to sustainability and technological innovation.

Goal 1

Measures

  • Create and publish detailed documentation on algorithms and data sources used for all new devices on the company website. Look into working with Swiss AI Research Overview Platform to make the knowledge publicly available.
  • Collect and use diverse and representative data sets for AI model training. Create appropriate in-house data sets and use public data sets from official bodies or organisations, such as the Swiss Federal Statistical Office or the European Union's Open Data Portal.
  • Develop guidelines for identifying and correcting bias in data sets (for example in line with EU ethics guidelines for trustworthy AI, and following Federal Commission for Data Protection guidelines) to ensure no groups face discrimination.
  • Assign an additional person per development team to ensure proper application of the ethics framework for developing AI-based data processing systems.

Goal 2

Measures

  • Set up and run at least three collection centres for old electronic devices in key sales regions.
  • Work with certified recycling companies and partners to safely process and reuse collected devices.
  • Develop and launch marketing campaigns to encourage customers to return old devices, such as advertising free shipping for device returns.
  • Provide incentives, such as discounts on new products or vouchers, for customers who return old devices.

Goal 3

Measures

  • Put in place a design process that focuses on optimising energy efficiency through innovative technologies such as energy-efficient processors, LED backlighting and optimised power supply systems.
  • Carry out comprehensive product tests to ensure new products exceed internal energy efficiency standards by at least 30% while meeting all relevant environmental standards and certifications.
  • Submit an eco-design product annually for consideration in a Digital Economy Award category.

Goal 4

Measures

  • Exchange with suppliers, processors and customers to identify joint opportunities, for example following the guidelines for implementing and complying with human rights due diligence to identify, review and implement responsible sourcing practices for electrical appliances.
  • Promote and implement recycling programmes (for example through collective action via partnerships and industry working groups) to recover and reuse precious metals from end-of-life devices, reducing the need to mine new raw materials.
  • Review and audit suppliers annually to ensure compliance with established sustainable procurement guidelines. If needed, jointly develop a concrete, time-bound action plan to address shortcomings.
