Example of a logistics company specialising in rail freight transport

Publikationsdatum: 2. April 2025
Letzte Änderung: 3. April, 2025

This transport and logistics company in German-speaking Switzerland already relies heavily on rail as a sustainable mode of transport and plans to expand this approach further. It offers bespoke transport and logistics solutions, including general cargo, full truck loads and special transports, as well as supplementary services such as warehouse logistics and customs clearance. With a nationwide network in Switzerland and international connections, the company ensures efficiency and transparency in the supply chain. The company is also focusing on making the 'last mile' more environmentally friendly and wants to extend its sustainability strategy to storage. The company pursues these sustainability goals together with its suppliers in order to foster a comprehensive and cooperative partnership.

Goal 1

Bis 2026 erhöhen wir den Anteil des Bahngütertransports in unserem Transportvolumen auf 65%.

Measures

  • Expand existing company-owned rail logistics centres in Swiss cities as transition stations from public rail to last-mile transport, creating additional capacity for rail transport.
  • Optimise connections between rail and road through improved logistics planning and investment in digital control systems.
  • Run semi-annual training courses and create incentives for staff to use rail-based transport solutions.
  • Revamp the online offer page to prioritise rail freight transport. Launch a national advertising campaign for rail freight transport. Create a bonus programme, e.g. offering price discounts to customers who choose rail transport over traditional options.

Goal 2

By 2026, we will have switched all our city logistics vehicles for last-mile deliveries in the five largest Swiss cities to emission-free or alternative drive technologies.

Measures

  • Buy electric vehicles and vehicles with alternative drive technologies for inner-city transport.
  • Work with local authorities to install charging infrastructure and secure funding..
  • Train drivers to use new vehicle technologies and optimise route planning to maximise the efficiency of zero-emission vehicles.
  • Look into developing a distribution network to reduce kilometres travelled and related emissions on the last mile of distribution.

Goal 3

By 2028, we will cut tCO2eq emissions across our entire logistics chain by 20% by improving monitoring systems and making our warehouse infrastructure more energy efficient.

Measures

  • Set up a comprehensive CO₂ monitoring system to measure and track emissions along the entire logistics chain.
  • Foster sustainable supply chains by working preferentially with partner organisations that also prioritise climate-friendly solutions.
  • Put in place energy-efficient technologies and processes in warehouses and distribution centres, including switching to renewable energy, sustainable building insulation and energy-efficient lighting systems.

Goal 4

By 2028, we will boost the circular economy by upcycling 75% of our used lorry tarpaulins.

Measures

  • Strengthen and expand partnerships with manufacturing companies to turn discarded lorry tarpaulins into new products and set annual targets to ensure at least 75% of discarded tarpaulins start a new product life cycle.
  • Put in place a monitoring system to track and document upcycling progress and how partner organisations use truck tarpaulins, ensuring transparency and efficiency.
  • Produce and publish an annual report showing upcycling progress and its impact on the circular economy, including areas for potential improvement.
